The Community Centre will be at the heart of everything HOPE-malawi are trying to do; a public location where members of the community can gather for activities, support, information, and advice. It will be a resource that everyone can use and will generate financial, environmental and social wealth for this area and beyond.
To enable it to be sustained it will be run as a social enterprise whose surplus will be reinvested back into the business or the community to help achieve HOPE-malawi’s objectives and change people’s lives for the better. The plans for the Community Centre, agreed by the Government of Malawi, include a Children's arts house and theatre, ECD centre, kid’s swimming pool, women’s craft shop, a community garden, restaurant, IT room, library, Coffee/Juice Bar and Volunteer Accommodation.
HOPE-malawi has been able to start building up the community centre on a small piece of land leased by Zion Kennedy Phillips Chirwa in Nkhata Bay township on the shores of Lake Malawi. Building without any financial backing has meant it has taken 7 years to build the Centre to its current state of 3, partially completed, buildings.
