Chihame kamoza Nursery School
Chihame Kamoza Nursery School is a community nursery school created by HOPEmalawi in Chihame Kamoza village, 2 hours walk from Nkhata Bay Township.
The school has made use of an unfurbished building in the village built by a different organization as the village desperately needed a local nursery school.
Until recently the school educated 39 children in one bare room. We saw the potential of this five roomed building and with support from Growing Voices and fundraising by our friends from Wales we are trandsforming it into a light and welcoming place for the children to learn.
nursery school open
On 30th October 2012 HOPEmalawi held the official opening of Chihame Nursery School. Over 200 adults and children crowded into the newly decorated classroom to celebrate the efforts of local and international volunteers. The school is now furnished with brightly coloured benches and freshly painted with alphabets and numbers, shapes, animals and a world map to inspire and stimulate the children's learning.
Outside in the school grounds there is now a playground and, of course, a garden. The garden produce will be sold to provide an income for school surplies.
There is still lots to do!! The remaining four side rooms will become an office, a kitchen and two rooms for volunteer accomodation. The school needs a tap water connection, volunteers with skills to support our two local volunteer teachers, educational toys kitchen equipment and toilet facilities.
On the day of the opening 48 children were registered and even more turned up the next
